Rakesh Goswami
She was reading Sex-peer. He was peering at her. "How can she concentrate on literature when I'm so disturbed?" he thought aloud. She lift her eyes off the book, cast a nasty look at him, and resumed reading.
In exasperation, he switched on the television. All newsreaders were beamingly announcing how he had blinked first. "General-ly speaking," said one channel, "The General has been a loser in the eyeball-to-eyeball." Gosh. He switched channels, and then plunked down the remote-in exasperation. Powell-speak had churned his bowels only that morning. Vajpayee's stance had taken A Toll on his sleep. Zhu (who?) had been too diplomatic.
"What's it, darling?" she asked, keeping Sex... er Sex-peer aside. He hummed meekly and hugged her.
"Something's troubling you, dear?" she cooed in his arms. "Yeah," he drawled mushily. She understood his dilemma. The whole of his country knew he had blinked first. "There is no way. They're all breathing down my neck." He extended the right hand to put out the light. She pulled up the razai, and gave him a quick peck.
They always get mushy when either of them is in trouble. That mitigates the problem is their logic-joint logic.

"You were very rough last night," she said, yawning. He was reading the review of an Indian film - Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. "You mean Kabhi Mushy, Kabhi Rough," he laughed. She joined him with a chortle.
On her way to the kitchen, she reminisced about such one-liners by him during their courtship.
He was thinking about himself. Just last night, he was mushy at home (and also rough later) and in office, rough. Very rough with the international matters. "Don't worry, I read in the papers that soon, the Indian Prime Minister will go begging. for votes.
He smiled in return. He was happy he had a good wife in tumultuous times to keep him in good humour.
