Azhar While Mahendra Singh Dhoni may be the new captain of the Indian ODI squad, it’s obvious who the choice for helming the Test team should be. None other than Sachin Tendulkar. All fans of Indian cricket will be in support of Sachin taking over the captaincy because he deserves it. We at Jaalmag.com are starting campaign to return him to where he belongs: As steward of Indian cricket’s future. Here’s why:

He Leads By Example 1: There is no other Indian cricketer who is currently still active, who has played in more matches. Experience counts for something since with age comes wisdom. He will bring a veteran attitude to the team unlike say Rahul Dravid or Saurav Ganguly, who are novices in comparison. The only other person who could have given him competition when it comes to maturity was Lala Amarnath. Unfortunately, he’s dead.
He Leads By Example 2: No other Indian cricketer has appeared in more commercials than Sachin Tendulkar has. This is of primary importance when it comes to leading the Indian team. After all, there are plenty of youngsters, who have barely begun their international careers and needs serious guidance in terms of signing contracts with major multinational advertisers as well as the ability to show poise and concentration in front of the camera.
He Leads By Example 3: India has a great tradition of being a land of fatalism or in the cricketing contest being extremely gracious losers. There’s no one who is more gracious in defeat than Sachin is. And he has so much talent for losing as he has proven through his magnificent career, failing to deliver each time the Indian team required him to. This will be a motivation for younger players to stop trying to be heroes and grab victories from apparent defeats.
He Leads By Example 4: Sachin is probably India’s most popular cricketer overseas and not just among the NRI folk. He’s so popular because he ensures that as the captain of the Indian team, he does not tour another country and abuse their hospitality by leading the team to a series win. These impeccable manners add to his resume for captaincy. This was why Rahul Dravid had to quit; he let down the entire country by winning a series in England against all norms of fair play, at least the Indian version.
He Leads By Example 5: Such courtesy, of course, should not just be shown abroad. It also needs to be demonstrated at home as Indians have a longstanding tradition of being excellent hosts. It’s embarrassing when touring teams, guests of our country, from Zimbabwe or Bangladesh, return defeated. But Sachin will certainly rectify that defect.
He Leads By Example 6: Sachin is also an extremely loyal player. He will ensure that the Indian team comprises the best available players in the country, all of them, certainly, from Mumbai. For all you nostalgia buffs, Sachin could actually bring Vinod Kambli back to the Indian team.
